Choosing Gratitude

We hope you had a good 4th of July celebration last weekend! Our Vega 4th of July traditions were enjoyed by all (except for the waterfront afternoon as it was pretty cold!). Our celebration ended with a coordinated, simultaneous release of breathtaking fireworks with our friends across the lake at Camp Laurel.

It is hard to believe that there are less than five weeks of camp left.  The girls spent the first week with their bunkmates; traveling to activities together, eating together, and strengthening friendships. Helping the girls and parents adjust to group living after spending the past year experiencing varying levels of social isolation, food and snacking choices, and physical activity presented many opportunities for growth for us all!  We also found that many parents needed help adjusting after the last year of spending more time with their children than ever.  We ourselves received a letter from one of our sons that contained “I really miss you” and had to assure ourselves that his camp would let us know if he was truly struggling.

Everyday, life gives us a plethora of opportunities to grow and learn and it is up to each of us to choose to take advantage of those opportunities.  We all chose this summer adventure for a wide variety of reasons beyond the social benefits. One of the biggest things the girls are looking forward to is focusing on the activities they have chosen.  We spend so much time on this because they enjoy doing what they love and because life is all about the choices we make.

We are grateful to have this summer together and see the joy and overcome the challenges – it is the foundation of our experience. We remind the girls to take advantage of every moment at camp this summer – honing skills in athletics, arts, and life.  Your daughters have embraced these opportunities, and we are excited to continue to help guide them on their journey.

As always, we will continue to strive to enjoy every moment, whether it is a challenge or picking daisies!
