Meet the Small Crafts Staff

 Kevin Gunn – Department Headkevin-gunn

I am excited to get back to Vega for my 3rd year in the small crafts department. I have previously worked 12 summers as a sailing instructor at both residential and day summer camps across the country, but find Vega as one of my favorites! During the school year, I am a high school teacher and sailing coach in New Orleans and the sailing director for the New Orleans Yacht Club. I also work as a U.S. Sailing small boat instructor trainer; it is my job to conduct certification courses to potential U.S. Sailing instructors. I also enjoy spending time with my wife of 5 years and working on sailboats in my garage. Looking forward to seeing everyone this summer!

fullsizerender-1Hi! I’m Ava Levinson and I’m so excited to be back home for my 8th summer at Vega! I was in Tamary 2014, and I could not be happier to be back and to be working in Small Crafts. I am from New York City, but currently I’m a student in the college of Arts & Sciences at Tulane University in New Orleans, where I hope to receive my bachelor’s degree in English with a Spanish minor. Musical theatre is one of my biggest passions, and I love to dance! For the past three summers, I worked at a theatre day camp with 5-12 year olds, as well as doing community service in both Costa Rica and Vietnam. Can’t wait to see everyone for an amazing summer 2018!

Hello everyone! I am Candela Pérez, I’m 18 years old and I’m from Spain. I’m in my first year of college studying Marketing and International Fashion in the University of Navarra. This is my first year in Camp Vega (also the first time in the US) and I can’t wait to meet you all and discover Camp Vega’s adventures. I will be in Small Crafts department, and I’m very willing to be part of an unforgettable summer in Camp Vega.  I’m on the Triathlon team of my university which is a mix of swimming, running and biking. I have taken part too in the Kick Boxing team. I love creativity, dancing, practicing whatever sport (but especially roller skating, pádel, running and kayaking). The wait is over!! Campers see you in Camp Vega 2018!

Hi, I’m Phara and I’m super excited to start my eighth summer at Vega! I was in Tamary 2014 and I will be returning to the small crafts department. I’m from Long Island, New York. During the school year I live in New Orleans where I attend Tulane University with a major in Art studio. Glass and sculpting are some of my favorite types of art along with drawing and painting. During the summer, I love to spend my time outdoors, especially by the water (and occasionally in tumbledown!) Rowing and sailing have been apart of my life since I was a little girl and I continued rowing competitively for seven years during middle school and high school. Currently I row for Tulane’s club team. I’m very eager to teach the campers some of my favorite water sports. See you all this summer!

Check back soon for more 2018 staff!
