Meet the Waterski Staff

Hey! My name is Conor O’Rourke (Philomena, Bunkle Beauty Champion 2017) and I am SO excited to return to Vega for my second summer! I had so much fun last summer that I simply just had to return to Echo Lake. Currently I am in my final year at Cardiff Metropolitan University, Wales studying Sport Development. If any of you don’t know where Wales is, then you’ll find it attached to England, about 3 hours from London! Any time spent outdoors is time well spent: swimming, camp fires and of course tennis are my favorite hobbies at Vega. I loved every second of last summer and I am hoping that I have remembered all of your names! Can’t wait to see you all soon!

Hello there! My name is Wentzel Gordon, a 25 year old, sports and outdoors enthusiast from South Africa! I am a full time student at the University of KwaZulu Natal studying a Bsc Dietetics. This is my first time at Camp Vega and my first time going over seas. I am incredibly excited to get the chance to share my knowledge and experiences in the waterski area and I cannot wait to learn about your country from you all! Being on the lakes and dams is what I live for, growing up I have spent much of my holidays camping, fishing, wake boarding and tubing all around South Africa. This summer is going to be a blast and I cannot wait to meet all of you!!

Hey guys! My name is Harriet Haslehurst, I’m 25 and I’m from Windsor, England. I’m really excited to be returning for my 3rd summer on Echo Lake. Summer 2014 and 2015 rank as some of the best summers of my life, soaking in the beautiful pines and lakes of Camp, amongst the fabulous and friendly campers and counsellors, in such a lively stimulating environment. I always said I would return if at all possible, so bring on Summer 2019!  Originally from the UK, I’ve spent the last 5 years in Ireland, at Trinity College Dublin studying medicine, graduating in June 2018 as a Doctor. I’m also a qualified snowsports ski instructor and have completed 2 seasons in the Alps – Val D’Isere, France 2012/13 and most recently Zermatt, Switzerland 2018/19.

I would describe my self as dedicated and passionate. I am driven and dedicated and love the challenge of teaching in challenging outdoor environments. My hobbies include skiing, football, netball, hiking, sailing and swimming; but I also love to relax, read and play games in the bunk. Both my previous 2 summers at camp I worked in small crafts, but this summer I will be taking on a new challenge on the lake in Waterski. I learnt to waterski from the age of 4 and can also wake board. I can’t wait for the new challenge whilst still getting the opportunity to get out on the lake.  Bring on Summer 2019!

Well hello all, my name is Leste Deyzel, I’ve just turned 21 years old, born and raised in Pretoria South Africa, but now living in Australia, although my heart still beats to the rhythm of the African drums. I’ve lived in Australia for the past 10 years. I am very excited to be returning to Camp Vega for the 3rd year as water-ski staff, best department to be in for the summer, and the most amazing place on earth to be a part of, cannot wait to see my girls, catch up with all my friends, meet new people and share this time in our lives together under the Vega Star with the best people on earth. Bring on summer 2019!

Hey everyone, I’m Shanae! I’m just an Aussie venturing out from our little island down under ready to help everyone smash it out on the water with a sport I have loved since I was 5. What I lack in height and eyesight, I make up for in serial binge watching and a nacho addiction. I like to live dangerously, toeing the line between too much coffee and not enough, and can proudly say that I can pilot a bicycle and cook Thirty-Minute Brownies in twenty minutes. Really excited to meet you all and help you have an awesome summer!

Hi!  My name is Lily Kamin, I’m from Rye Brook, New York and I am so excited to be returning back to Vega for my ninth summer!  This is my first summer as a counselor but had the best eight years of my life as a camper and cannot wait to finally be back!  I will be working in water ski this summer which was my favorite department when I was a camper. My specialty is wakeboarding but I also love slaloming, two skiing, wakesurfing and the ski jump.  I am currently a freshman at the University of Texas at Austin studying psychology and business. I can’t wait to meet all the campers, both new and old, and hope at some point during the summer you all have a chance to hang out with me whether it be on my boat, my bunk or anywhere in between!  Yeah Vega 2019! Woo!!

Hi there! My name is Ninna Tove Johansen, I am 19 years old and from the Scandinavian country Denmark! I am currently on my first gap year, and will be heading into my second over the summer.  At home I have always spent my free time by or on the water, so I am very much looking forward to spending my whole summer on Echo Lake and passing on the fun of water activities as I will be working in the waterski department! This will be my first summer at camp Vega, and I am so excited to meet all of you, and create loads of fun times and memories with everyone!

My name is Debra Baldwin and I’m from Jupiter, Florida. I am so excited to work at Vega for the first time! I just finished my freshman year at the University of Miami studying Public Relations. I went to overnight camp in Maine for 7 summers and I can’t wait to be back and teaching my favorite activity waterskiing! I’m looking forward to having the best summer and meeting all of you!

My name is Candice, I am a French student at university in northern England. I am so excited to spend my first summer at camp! I always loved water and sport related to it, I can’t wait to share my love of sports and create life long memories with everyone.  I can’t wait to meet everybody and have the best summer ever.

Hi everyone, I’m Moneshe and I’m from a quiet rural area near Sydney Australia. I love to be outside and at home you’ll probably find me hiking, waterskiing or scuba diving. I have also been a competitive horse rider and I love to draw and be creative. I love to try new things and that’s what brings me here! This is my second year as a counselor, but I’m brand new at Vega and also to teaching waterskiing. I’m really excited to spend every day on the lake teaching one of my favourite activities!

Hey Campers! I’m Tegan (people call me Tee), I’m a fun loving gal from NZ who lives in the outdoors! This year will be my first ever year in a Summer Camp so I am super excited to be sharing this experience with everyone at Camp Vega. I’ll be working in the water ski area so be sure to come say hey, and we will definitely get you on on skis or a knee board – whatever you fancy! I’m currently on a gap year before heading into the RNZAF. I can’t wait to meet all of you during this fantastic summer!
