STEAMing Ahead, Golf, Online Tutoring – Summer Activity Updates and Reminders

We are enjoying putting together every camper’s schedule and helping campers and parents envision the details of what their summer will look like! We have also received requests that we are planning to introduce flag football and handball at camp this summer.  These activities will take place during landsports activity periods or during evening activities.

STEAM: We have decided to offer a STEAM activity for Junior campers.  For those of you who need a refresher: STEAM involves building, creating, and/or engineering various fun structures and pieces of art.  We made this decision after reviewing a proposal prepared by a 2nd year staff member and Vega alumna, Elle Weingarten!

Elle is currently working towards obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at Tufts University.  Her love of technology and kids helped expedite this decision of choosing to give juniors the chance to build various structures along with timeless classics like the “Egg Drop” she included in her program proposal.

We are excited to help Elle and all STEAM participants engineer to new heights!  Camp families can find STEAM as an option in the small crafts department in the activity selection form in their campintouch account.

TUTORING: We are also partnering once again with Fusion Academy to offer summer tutoring to those who want (or need) to keep their academic skills honed. We ask families to fulfill their daughter’s summer tutoring needs with Fusion Academy to streamline coordination. Fusion also offers less mainstream “academic” electives for those interested in topics such as animation or screenwriting at camp this summer. You can find out more and register here.

EXTRA “LANDSPORTS” COACHING: Several campers are intent on improving their skills in various sports. Vega’s “Landsports” Department consists of nearly every sport on land (except tennis, gymnastics, and horseback riding). If you and your daughter would like to explore additional options, please complete this form our Athletic Director Emma created.

Finally, we have received several inquiries regarding golf. There are two potential options this summer: golf at Vega (on the activity selection form as Landsports – Golf) will be a normal activity period and mainly consist of chipping and driving throughout camp with the extremely skilled and experienced golfer and Vega staff member Michael O’Connell. We are also exploring details for the Golf Clinic, which is once a week (so it will not count as a choice for a normal activity period) at the Belgrade Lakes Club. Belgrade Lakes is 30 minutes from Vega, and girls can play sections of the 18 hole golf course and practice on their driving range and putting green. If you and your daughter are interested in signing up for the golf clinic, please contact sofie@campvega.com ASAP to get added to the list. Details are being determined based on the number of participants and skill levels.

Counting the days!,

The Vega Team
