Summer Camp Community Service

Community Service Crew

It can be challenging to come up with ways to help the surrounding community – especially when our neighboring community is so spread out and mostly trees!  Most of the community service projects involve helping the environment, with events like Green Care Day.  During Green Care Day we do things like avoid using electricity during the day and plant bushes to help reduce our carbon footprint.

However, there are times when we need to travel somewhere to help a community in need.  There are two community service projects that the older girls are volunteering for this summer.  As we have done for the past many summers, girls are heading to Camp Sunshine to help run programs for families that are battling with a life threatening disease.  Camp Sunshine offers well deserved respite for the stresses that these families are going through and also offers a wonderful support group.

We also were able to bring a group of girls to help the Kennebec Land Trust, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the forests and wilderness in Vega’s Kennebec County.  Today the girls helps build a bridge for a hiking trail in the Kennebec Land Trust.  Reports from the project stated that the project was a success, and the girls were able to add a touch of Vega after the project was finished.Touch of Camp Vega
