Hi, I’m Debbie Green and I am thrilled to be returning as the Head Counselor, working with all the Group Leaders, for Vega summer 2019. I started working at Vega in 1999, took some time off to be with my family, and was lucky enough to return to my summer home in 2013. This will be my 15th summer at Vega! When I’m not on beautiful Echo Lake, I live in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey with my husband of 30+ years, Michael. We have two wonderful daughters Jenna (Tamary 2004) and Melanie (Tamary 2006). Melanie continued on as a Counselor and Group Leader for many years and I feel so fortunate to have spent many summers working with her at Vega.
I believe in camp tradition and core values and I strive hard to instill them in all the campers. Vega inspires me and allows me to spend 7 glorious weeks getting to know the girls, helping them to grow, navigate through daily camp life, and share in their accomplishments. It’s truly a magical place providing a safe environment to take chances, and flourish as a young girl.
In addition to being at Vega for all the campers, I am here for all the staff as well. I truly look forward to meeting and getting to know all of you. Please know that I am extremely approachable and will always make time for anyone who wants to talk about anything. I want to help you all have the best summer imaginable!
Sandy Harris – Program Director
Hi, I’m Sandy Harris and I’m from Salt Lake City, Utah. Being hired almost 20 years years ago as a counselor for Sub Super Juniors and working in Landsports, I didn’t think that my future was or could be with Vega. But after working as a counselor, I became a group leader for Inters, Seniors, Super Seniors and Tamary over the years. I was fortunate as an educator to have summers off and a husband whose job allowed him to work remotely. This, being my 9th year as Program Director, my husband (Richie) and 3 children (Will 10, Samantha 5, Taylor 5) think of Vega as our second home. We love coming back each summer to a place that provides such a safe, loving environment that let’s campers be themselves, have fun learning new skills and create lifelong friendships with peers and staff. I love Vega’s history, traditions and values and every year try my best to contribute in helping Vega and campers achieve these goals.
I’m so excited to see everyone and meet all our new campers and staff. See you soon!
Michelle Tolson – Marketing and Communications Director
After 13 summers heading the Dance Department, I am excited to join the Vega team year round. Working at Vega has held a special place in my heart since 2003. I stepped into the corporate world in 2013 and was the Director of Communications at the NYC Rescue Mission and the American Heart Association before returning to Vega. Feel free to send me an email or give me a call and I will do the best I can to answer any and all questions. Looking forward to a great 2019!
